New research into complex sugar structures known as glycans, through a science called glycobiology, is revealing that sugar may be the secret to wrinkle-free skin.
Glycans are essential for cellular communication in our skin, but diminish in number with age, which means cells no longer receive the messages they need to maintain youthful skin.
A new beauty product from YSL wants to change that. The Forever Youth Liberator range are lotions that artificially raise the levels of glycans in older skin to trick it into behaving like younger skin. The results, so far, are being praised by the beauty director of Harper’s Bazaar magazine as "amazing!"
Others call the science behind the beauty line, which is also thought to hold the secret to treating serious diseases like cancer and malaria, a "promising" new technology that could potentially change the world.
